Most of the early paints were made of vegetable oil, so they were named paints, but now synthetic resins will completely replace vegetable oils, and the apparent characteristics of paints are liquid, which cannot cover solid paints, and then it is not appropriate to name paints, so they are changed to paints.
To put it simply, coatings can cover solid powder coatings and liquid paints, but paints can only be liquid paints, not equivalent to coatings, and the word coatings can cover all kinds of products in the industry.

f. According to the appearance of the coating film (varnish, color paint; matte, flat, matte, high-gloss; Hammered paint, embossed paint...)
g. According to the object of use (automobile paint, ship paint, container paint, aircraft paint, home appliance paint, ......etc.)
h. According to the performance of paint film (anticorrosive paint, insulating paint, conductive paint, heat-resistant paint, ......etc.)
i. By film-forming substance (alkyd, epoxy, chlorinated rubber, acrylic, polyurethane, ethylene, ......)
Each of the above classification methods has its own characteristics, but no one classification method can include all the specific coatings, so there is no unified classification method in the world. China's national standard GBT-2705-2003, coatings can be divided into 17 categories according to the type of binder:
According to the performance characteristics, it can be divided into: organic coatings, inorganic coatings, solvent-based coatings, solvent-free coatings, water-based coatings, powder coatings, high-solids coatings and high-build coatings, etc.;
According to the functional characteristics, it can be divided into: magnetic paint, color paint, varnish, blending paint, primer, top coat and intermediate paint, etc.; The finished products include formwork paint, interior and exterior wall latex paint, fireproof latex paint, etc.
